How do I adjust the brakes on the Rollz Motion 2-in-1 Walker Wheelchair?

The Rollz Motion is a 2-in-1 Walker Wheelchair that is considered the best on the market. It has won international design awards, it uses high-quality materials and it is tried and tested around the world. There are different models including the Rollz Motion, Rollz Performance, Rollz Rhythm and Rollz Electric 3-in-1.

If your Rollz Motion brakes are not working as well as they should, it usually means you need to do a brake adjustment as explained in the product's user manual. If you've lost your manual, you can download in on the Rollz website. Or the following guide might help.

First thing: Make sure cable hasn't popped out of the two slots as shown in this 10 sec video:

If it was out of the slots, that might be why your brake felt different.
If not, go on to the next stage...

There are three ways to adjust the brakes on the Rollz Motion:

Option 1 is the screw just below the handle.
Option 2 is the screw down by the wheel.
And Option 3 is releasing the cable altogether, retightening and then adjusting its tension, and then retrying the two screw options (1 and 2).

The screw setting at the top is for more micro adjustments. The ones at the bottom are more macro adjustments.
  • Watch this 23 sec video first. This shows the two screw options (1 and 2).

Option 1:
  • The screws at the bottom of the handle shaft can slightly lengthen or shorten the brake cable. It has two moving parts - the top part is the locking screw. The lower screw keeps the tension.
  • If you roll both screws away from the handle then it tightens the cable. The opposite way loosens the cable. Once you have it at the desired length/tension, only screw the top 'locking screw' back up to the shaft to lock it in place. (Red arrow shows the direction to screw to increase tension).

Option 2:
Red arrow shows the direction to screw, to increase tension and therefore more braking power.

To loosen the tension, screw in the opposite direction of the arrows.

If Step One and Step Two haven't worked, then you need to do a larger adjustment...

Option 3:
  • Return the settings from step one and two by reducing tension (this puts the adjustment screws back to a place where you can use them to re-tension later).
  • Now, loosen brake cable by undoing the screw on the brake lever (down by the wheel, pictured below). Once the brake cable is running free in the lever, pull it down further, then up under tension, so it's taught and the lever is just slightly pulled up, then re-tighten the screw while holding the tension.
  • This step is shown quite well by a man in the second part of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxpg0-I8-3g

After doing Step 3, you can tuck the end of the cable back into the level as shown here.

Now you can go back to the initial adjustment settings of Options 1 and 2, to fine-tune the feeling of the brakes.

NOTE:

If you are adjusting the brakes in the Rollz Rhythm Reverse Brake, then the screw adjustments work the opposite way. See your user manual.
